Don Basilio

Baritone Matthew Görlitz is a master’s student in Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia, studying with Dale Throness. He has performed a wide range of roles across opera and concert repertoire, including Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Escamillo in Carmen, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte. Matthew has also appeared as a soloist in works ranging from Mozart’s Requiem to Purcell’s Fairy Queen, and has participated in contemporary opera workshops. His stage experience spans UBC Opera, Opera Unbound, Musica Intima, and European Summer Academy programs, covering both principal roles and ensemble work. Known for his vocal warmth, dramatic presence, and dedication to storytelling, Matthew is delighted to join Burnaby Lyric Opera as the scheming and witty Don Basilio in Rossini’s beloved comedy.
